Minimalism Dark Background
Fill your whole scene with a calm, animated dark background lit in your accent color.
On this page
The Minimalism Dark Background is a full-screen backdrop for Starting Soon, Be Right Back, Ending and Offline scenes, or behind your camera on a Just Chatting layout. It draws a dark stage with soft, moving light in your accent color. No image or video files needed.
It matches the Minimalism Dark look that most widgets offer, so your whole overlay feels like one set.
md2-moodlookhaloAdd it
Click Add in the toolbar (or press W) and pick Minimalism Dark Background under Music & Media.
It fills the whole stage by itself. Keep it at the bottom of your layers so everything else sits on top.
Pick a Mood and an Accent color.
Choose how much it moves with Motion.
Moods and light
Each Mood is a different lighting idea: Halo, Glass, Eclipse, Beam, Neon, Tide, Blinds, Gallery and Bokeh. Clear (transparent) draws nothing, for when you want your own image or video underneath.
The Accent color tints the light of every mood. Very dark colors are lifted so they stay visible.
Light decides where the glow sits:
- Full screen (horizon) lights a horizon for title screens. Horizon height (%) moves it: 68 suits Be Right Back, Ending and Offline, 77 suits Starting Soon.
- Behind the camera pools the light around your camera area.
Leave room for your camera
Turn on Cut out the camera to keep the camera area transparent. Then put your camera source below this overlay in OBS and it shows through the hole. Camera X, Camera Y, Camera width and Camera height set the area in 1920 x 1080 pixels; the Behind the camera light uses the same area.
Motion and performance
| Motion | What it does |
|---|---|
| Full | Every loop runs at 30 fps |
| Calm | Half speed at 15 fps |
| Light (older PCs) | Moving layers off, a still picture |
| Static | One still picture |
Tips
- Darker edges adds the closing darkening of an Ending screen. Corner marks can be switched off for a cleaner frame.
- Combine it with a Countdown and a Socials widget for a complete Starting Soon scene.
- Set up one scene per screen, see Scenes.
Settings
All settings live in the floating settings card on the right of the editor. Defaults are what a new widget starts with.
